Adiponectin	, the most abundant adipokine, plays a vital role in glucose and fatty acid metabolism. It is a well-established biomarker of insulin resistance. Plasma adiponectin levels are inversely correlated with insulin resistance.
Leptin	, primarily produced by adipose tissues, regulates appetite, energy expenditure, and glucose metabolism. Plasma leptin levels are directly correlated with insulin resistance.
Resistin	, secreted by mononuclear cells and adipocytes, affects in glucose homeostasis and insulin resistance. Resistin levels are positively correlated with insulin resistance.
IL-6	is a pleiotropic adipokine involved in regulation of inflammation, hematopoiesis, immune responses, and host defense. IL-6 leads to insulin resistance by impairing IRS-1 mediated insulin signaling.
