Hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) is a heparin-binding growth factor with multiple roles including proliferation, differentiation, angiogenesis, and apoptosis. HDGF can translocate to the nucleus and function as a transcription factor. Besides, HDGF is also secreted to extracellular space. Extracellular HDGF binds to an unidentified receptor and involves in proliferation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and cell migration. Recently, HDGF is also found in exosomes implying its aggressive potential for cancer progression.
