GeneID: 259197 Human NCR3

Swiss-port # O14931 Human Natural cytotoxicity triggering receptor 3

Gene Symbol NCR3
Gene Full Name natural cytotoxicity triggering receptor 3
Background The protein encoded by this gene is a natural cytotoxicity receptor (NCR) that may aid NK cells in the lysis of tumor cells. The encoded protein interacts with CD3-zeta (CD247), a T-cell receptor. A single nucleotide polymorphism in the 5' untranslated region of this gene has been associated with mild malaria suceptibility. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, May 2010]
Function Cytotoxicity-activating receptor that contributes to the increased efficiency of activated natural killer (NK) cells to mediate tumor cell lysis. Engagement of NCR3 by BAG6 also promotes dendritic cell (DC) maturation, both through killing those DCs that did not properly acquire a mature phenotype, and inducing NK cells to release TNFA and IFNG, which promotes DC maturation. [UniProt]
Cellular Localization Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. [UniProt]
Calculated MW 22 kDa
