GeneID: 10663 Human CXCR6

Swiss-port # O00574 Human C-X-C chemokine receptor type 6

Gene Symbol CXCR6
Gene Full Name chemokine (C-X-C motif) receptor 6
Background Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) require coreceptors in addition to CD4 to infect target cells. Some G protein-coupled receptors in the chemokine receptor family, including CCR5, CXCR4, CCR3, and CCR2b, have previously been identified as HIV coreceptors. An orphan G protein-coupled receptor designated Bonzo was recently cloned and identified as a HIV-1 and -2 and SIV coreceptor (also called STRL33 and TYMSTR). The messenger RNA for Bonzo is expressed in lymphoid tissues and activated peripheral blood lymphocytes.
Function Receptor for the C-X-C chemokine CXCL16. Used as a coreceptor by SIVs and by strains of HIV-2 and m-tropic HIV-1. [UniProt]
Research Area Immune System antibody; Microbiology and Infectious Disease antibody
