GeneID: 914 Human CD2

Swiss-port # P06729 Human T-cell surface antigen CD2

Gene Symbol CD2
Gene Full Name CD2 molecule
Background CD2 is a 50 kDa single-chain type I transmembrane glycoprotein, originally defined as the sheep erythrocyte receptor. CD2 is one of the earliest T-cell lineage-restricted antigens to appear during T-cell differentiation, and it is expressed on most thymocytes, peripheral T cells and NK cells. Originally identified as a sheep RBC receptor, functions as a CD58 receptor and mediates activation of T-cells, NK cells and dendritic cells.
Function CD2 interacts with lymphocyte function-associated antigen (LFA-3) and CD48/BCM1 to mediate adhesion between T-cells and other cell types. CD2 is implicated in the triggering of T-cells, the cytoplasmic domain is implicated in the signaling function. [UniProt]
