Transcription factor Nrf2 is a master regulator of the antioxidant responses. Nrf2 induces antioxidant gene expression by binding to the antioxidant response element (ARE). Most neurodegenerative disorders are characterized by oxidative stress. Nrf2 activation has a potential role in the treatment of neurodegeneration. Besides, Nrf2 is a therapeutic target in cancer as it protects cancer cells from oxidative damage.
