Cytolytic granules Perforin (PFN) and a family of serine protease including Granzyme B are secreted via exocytosis and induce apoptosis in target cells through the activation of caspases. Perforin deficient mice exhibit reduced ability to clear many viral and intracellular pathogens and are highly susceptible to B-cell lymphoma, tumors and metastases.
